Little Mx. Sunshine is a proof-of-concept short film for Showtime, written by Jacob Tobia (author of Sissy: A Coming of Gender Story, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and directed by Alessandro Nori (a producer known for his work on Razor Tongue starring Rain Valdez of Transparent fame). Jacob plays Jordan opposite Nik Dodani as Taz (Atypical, Escape Room, Trinkets). The short looks at the moment when their relationship is called into question. Jordan fears that Taz is ashamed of dating an enby and confronts him about it. It’s a funny, beautiful story that could easily become a charming half-hour dramedy in the vein of Girls, Insecure or Shrill. With nothing else like it on television, I hope Showtime decides to move forward with the pilot episode. It was such a pleasure to edit Nik and Jacob’s performances and to work with the producers - Seth Hauer (Looking, Tales of the City, Breaking Fast) and Davin Michaels (Barry, Big Little Lies, Breaking Fast). I would happily do it again anytime. It’s rare for their to be such a combination of vision and collaboration in our industry.
