One of the challenges of editing Breaking Them Up was finding the tone as we danced along the fine lines of heartbreak and comedy. The film has a lovely balance of whimsical comedic scenes and earnest, raw, emotional scenes - from total breakdowns to falling in love.

I had a blast collaborating with Scott Dow, whose thoughtful and innovative direction gave me a lot to work with, while also making bold choices. I love it when a director really speaks their vision through the dailies and lets me know how they see the film. It’s nice to have all the options in the world, but I prefer a strong viewpoint if given the choice. I would jump at the chance to work with him again. Dev Whadwha’s script was such a fantastic place to start and we were fortunate to have some very talented actors* to work with who brought that script to life. Relative newcomer Jakob Wedel gave a nuanced, delightful performance as Damien.

*Stephen Schneider (Broad City, You’re The Worst), Kelen Coleman (The Office, The Newsroom), Aidan Langford (Bosch, 1985), Juliocesar Chavez (Kidding, Lady Dynamite), Tess Aubert (Unbelievable, Shameless)
